This site exists to make a body of cited work checkable. It is plain HTML and one stylesheet, with no tracking, no analytics and no cookies. Two things on it run JavaScript. The Coupled Map is an interactive diagram and cannot be one without it, and the mark at the head of every page is drawn rather than loaded. Turn scripting off and both fall back to the still image. Ask your system for reduced motion and the mark holds still as well. It sets in Palatino, which is what the book's TeX Gyre Pagella is a clone of, and it takes its ink, cream and amber, and its trefoil, from the book's cover. The trefoil is a curve that passes through itself, drawn as a contour map: the strange loop and intrinsic cartography in one mark.
The mark now turns. What turns is the knot itself, in three dimensions, folding until you are looking at it almost edge on and then opening back out. The flat emblem is that same object at rest, and the drawing holds still at rest so that what you meet there is the printed mark and not a version of it. A trefoil has three-fold symmetry, so a third of a turn returns it exactly to where it began. The loop therefore has no seam and no beginning, and none of that is faked in the drawing.
How the works were made
These works were made the way the book was made, in dialogue with an AI. The book says so in full at the front, and repeats it wherever a claim rests on this material. They are not a second pair of eyes. They are the same pair looking again, which is why the book softens rather than confirms every claim that leans on them, and why its Part Two grading was put to judges drawn from more than one model family.
That is also why they are published here. A citation into unavailable work asks for trust. A citation into work you can open asks for judgement, and can be answered with disagreement.
The book
The Universe and Other Things: an intrinsic cartography of human knowing is complete in two parts. Part One is the method, nine chapters and an appendix. Part Two applies it to sixteen cross-domain braids behind a declared firewall. It is set in two editions, US Letter at 288 pages and A4 at 279, and the page numbers do not correspond, so a reference to this book is best given by chapter and section.
